Well, Marvel Studios is rumored to be searching for a “Zac Efron-type” actor to fill be cast as one of their characters. There were persistent rumors Efron replace Hugh Jackman as the next Wolverine. So, when Efron appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show promoting his movie, The Greatest Beer Run Ever, you’d best bet that the talk show host would ask him if he was aware of the talks. When asked by Fallon if he was aware of the Marvel casting call, the Baywatch star replied, “Really? They could just call me. " Ryan Reynolds recently revealed that Hugh Jackman will be returning as Logan / Wolverine in Deadpool 3. Jimmy Fallon went on to joke that Efron could just ask for the role from Jackman as both have previously worked together.

Zac Efron in the MCU

The rumors about Marvel’s search for a “Zac Efron-type” began in 2019 after the studio was reportedly making casting calls for Moon Knight’s Marc Spector and Eternals’ Ikaris. Oscar Isaac was cast as Moon Knight while Richard Madden played Ikaris. There could be several roles available for an actor of Efron’s caliber. He could be part of one of the upcoming movies in Phases 5 and 6 of the MCU. The cast of the Fantastic Four has not yet been revealed and there are reports that John Krasinski will not be returning as Reed Richards aka Mister Fantastic. Zac Efron would fit well as the next Human Torch. The role was previously played by Chris Evans, who later starred as Captain America, followed by Michael B. Jordan, who also played the same role in the ill-fated reboot of the film. He can also be part of the X-Men which is rumored to be coming to the MCU. This year, there have been several mutants introduced in the MCU including Ms. Marvel and Namor. Fans have been speculating that Marvel is slowly introducing mutants as a way to slowly build up for the mutant team X-Men. It would not come as a surprise if he did get a role with the X-Men. Efron would be a great fit for a character like Cyclops or Iceman. He could also fill the role of Gambit which was a planned stand-alone film before it was canceled. There will be a huge number of other characters that Zac Efron could portray in the MCU given its roster. Fans are hoping that it will be just a matter of time before we see him as a superhero.
