The voices behind the animated characters of The Simpsons recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter. Yeardley Smith, who is the voice of Lisa Simpson, shared her thoughts about criticism that she didn’t like. In particular, Smith singled out how people keep on saying that “the show hasn’t been good since Season 10”, which she believes is offensive to the people who are working hard to make every episode of The Simpsons. Nancy Cartwright, who is the voice of Lisa’s brother, Bart Simpson, agreed with Yeardly. She describes such criticism as “mind-blogging” as she thinks of The Simpsons as a show that “still brings lightness and thought-provoking storylines” after all these years. Having a massive and hardcore fanbase isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. On one hand, The Simpsons’ fans have stuck to the show through thick and thin. On the other hand, they can get extremely critical. But, regardless of what critics and naysayers might think of The Simpsons, the hit TV show has cemented itself as one of the longest-running TV shows of all time. At this point, Matt Groening’s creation is synonymous with pop culture and it will be a sad day for everyone if and when the final episode airs. The good news here is that the end probably isn’t near. After Season 33 premiered last September, fans can look forward to Season 34 in Fall 2022. As we inch closer to that date, don’t be surprised if the House of Mouse renews The Simpsons indefinitely. In other news, Disney found itself in hot water back in November after Disney+ removed an episode of The Simpsons that contained jokes about Tienanmen Square. In the same month, the show’s executive producer, Al Jean, confirmed that a sequel to 2007’s The Simpsons Movie is still in development albeit there’s no word on when it will be released. Finally, one of Groening’s other works, Futurama, will be getting a revival on Hulu sometime next year.
