After the usual round of leaks and speculation, Sony has confirmed the lineup of free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers this July. Although part of the leaks were correct in that the PS5 version of A Plague Tale: Innocence will be included, they were a ways off on everything else. The PS Plus July 2021 free games lineup will be WWE 2K Battlegrounds, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, and A Plague Tale: Innocence.
A Plague Tale headlines the PS Plus July 2021 free games lineup
A Plague Tale: Innocence was first released back in 2019 and is widely considered one of the most underrated titles of its generation. The stealth adventure game with survival horror elements was developed by Asobo Studio and is set in rat-infested 14th century France. A sequel to the 2019 title was announced at E3 2021 with a next-gen remake for the Xbox Series S/X and PS5 slated to release on July 6. Since A Plague Tale: Innocence will be part of the PS Plus July 2021 free games lineup, PlayStation Plus subscribers won’t need to shell out money for the PS5 version anymore. It’ll be interesting to see just how much immersive the game will become when running at a native 4K resolution on the PlayStation 5. Of course, the PS5 freebie isn’t the only noteworthy giveaway for July. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and WWE 2K Battlegrounds are both excellent titles as well. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was first released back in 2018 and comes with one of the best Zombies maps in Call of Duty history. It also comes with Blackout, a battle royale version of the shooter that could be considered as the predecessor to Call of Duty: Warzone. Meanwhile, WWE 2K Battlegrounds is an arcade take on the WWE 2K series. Instead of realistic graphics, it’s more cartoony. It lets you play as legendary WWE wrestlers, as well as current superstars, in an all-out brawl that comes complete with interactive environments. WWE 2K Battlegrounds also comes with a new story mode that’s surprisingly good. With that said, the PS Plus July 2021 free games lineup is definitely not bad. It would’ve been better if A Plague Tale: Innocence was also available for PS4 owners, but that is probably asking too much. Speaking of free games, it’s not too late to get yourself a copy of the June lineup. As is always the case, to redeem these free games on your PS4 and PS5 console, you’ll need to have an active PS Plus membership. In addition to an excellent selection of free games every month, PS Plus subscribers also get access to exclusive sales and other freebies.
