Technically, this isn’t new information. We found out last year that Ubisoft had pushed back Prince of Persia’s release date with no further release date offered. Although we got some good news that the game’s original studio, Ubisoft Montreal, had taken over the remake’s development, it still does not mean that the game is coming out anytime soon. Now, to clarify any confusion, Ubisoft has confirmed in a statement to IGN that the troubled game is not canceled and work is still ongoing at Ubisoft Montreal. Ubisoft says that it is “proud of the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai,” adding that, “Ubisoft Montreal will benefit from their learnings as the new team will continue to deliver a great remake.” The announcement comes after many fans expressed their concerns over the past week, as some retailers began delisting preorders for the Sands of Time remake. Ubisoft also used this opportunity to address the issue, explaining that players who want to cancel preorders are “invited to contact their retailer.” Ubisoft would love to have The Dagger of Time right now so that it can go back in time and not give the Sands of Time remake a release window. The only consolation for Ubisoft here is that it will benefit from the fallout following the release of Cyberpunk 2077. The gamers of today are much more receptive to delays after CD Projekt RED’s latest title fell flat on its face at launch. Even if Cyberpunk 2077 is worth playing in 2022, the effects remain evident. Hopefully, the Sands of Time remake is as good as the original whenever it arrives. In other Ubisoft news, the French publisher confirmed that it doesn’t have anything planned this June. This contradicts earlier reports that Ubisoft had an E3-style showcase coming this summer. But, don’t give up just yet. Ubisoft did mention that it’s planning to do something “later this year.” Regardless of when that happens, Ubisoft has a lot of in-development projects that fans are desperate to get an update from, like Skull and Bones, Beyond Good and Evil 2, as well as Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Even if it’s unlikely, we’re optimistic that Ubisoft will drop at least one trailer or two of its upcoming slate at either the Summer Game Fest on June 9, Future Games Show on June 11, or the PC Gaming Show on June 12.
