Five years after launching the Nintendo Switch in the United States, the hybrid console has now overtaken the PS4 to be the best-selling game console of its generation and the fourth best-selling console of all time. According to the NPD, the Switch was April’s leader in unit sales after the Xbox Series S/X topped the US sales charts in March. As a result, the Switch is now just ranked behind the PS2, Xbox 360, and Wii in all-time sales. Also, as revealed by the NPD, the PS5 is now atop the sales charts in dollar sales, which is in line with the notable uptick of stock supplies of Sony’s current-gen console in comparison to previous months. Elden Ring also continues to sell well. After reporting that Elden Ring has become the best-selling FromSoftware title, the open-world RPG set a new record soon after. The numbers show that Elden Ring is the best-selling game over the past 12 months, regardless of the platform. This is a monumental achievement as Activision’s most recent Call of Duty usually takes the crown. It will be interesting to see how FromSoftware and Bandai Namco will expand Elden Ring. Given its unprecedented success, it will be a huge waste not to release at least one or two big expansions to help capitalize on the game’s popularity. Back in March, FromSoftware was hinting at more Elden Ring projects. In other news, the Switch’s success isn’t all good news. Shuntaro Furukawa recently shared that the Switch successor is a “major concern” for Nintendo.
