The Flash will mark Warner Bros. Discovery’s return to the Super Bowl following a 17-year absence. The last time the media behemoth appeared at the Super Bowl was in 2006 when it promoted V for Vendetta, 16 Blocks, and Poseidon at the event. The Wrap, which broke the news, also reported early test screenings of the movie received a lot of praise, mirroring earlier reports on the topic. The Flash is inspired by the iconic DC Comics storyline, Flashpoint. It will follow Miller’s character as he journeys to the past to prevent his mother’s murder at the hands of his arch-nemesis Reverse-Flash. During his journey across the multiverse, he will encounter other versions of himself and a version of Supergirl. He will also meet Michael Keaton’s Batman with Keaton reprising his role as the character for the first time since 1992. The Flash has had a tortured existence given the very public and very negative press its star actor Ezra Miller has been getting. Warner Bros. reportedly considered canceling the project despite its hefty cost which surpassed $200 million. However, following Miller’s public apology in August and their announcement that they were getting professional help for mental health issues, the company seemingly buried the hatchet and is now going at full throttle to release the film. Apart from Miller, who plays the titular character, and Keaton, The Flash will star Ben Affleck as a different version of Batman, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Sasha Calle as Supergirl, as well as Maribel Verdu as Nora Allen, and Kiersey Clemons as Iris West. Andres Muschietti will direct the film with Christina Hodson as its writer. As for the DC Universe, the DC Studios’ new heads, Peter Safran and James Gunn, have been busy making changes since taking over. Two of their decisions, which didn’t go down well with fans, were to let go of Henry Cavill, who played Superman, and put a third Wonder Woman film on hold. Before these decisions, the Superman and Wonder Woman characters had cameo appearances in The Flash. However, these appearances have now been cut out of the film.
