With that said, it appears that this is all about to change real soon.
Are we going to get a remake of Chrono Cross?
A few months ago, we found out a lot of info about upcoming games via the GeForce Now leak. Naturally, PC ports of God of War and its sequel, God of War: Ragnarok, as well as Horizon Forbidden West, took up most of the proverbial spotlight. However, the aforementioned leak also listed several other unannounced titles, including a remake of classic JRPGs such as Final Fantasy IX and Chrono Cross. In addition to this, an Irish musician also claimed that he was working on a song for a big remake project by PlayStation that’s set for a December reveal. Fast forward to earlier this week and more information about this unannounced remake just surfaced, courtesy of XboxEra co-founder Nick Baker. In a recent The XboxEra Podcast episode, Baker effectively confirmed the Chrono Cross remake or remaster, saying that “The game itself is not a mystery.” He then added that the remaster or remake of Chrono Cross isn’t going to be a PlayStation exclusive, but rather, a “multi-plat.” If what Baker and Ava have said over the past few months is true, then Sony could very well announce a Chrono Cross remaster or remake soon. Sony’s October 2021 State of Play showcase was seriously underwhelming and Sony did not host a similar event for November. If Sony intends to end the year with a bang (and to help drive up the sales of the PS5 even further), ending a December 2021 State of Play showcase by announcing that a Chrono Cross remaster or remake is coming, among others, is a great way to get fans excited. Unfortunately, this is all speculation at this point. You should take everything that you just read with a grain of salt. In the meantime, you can play Final Fantasy IX as part of November 2021’s PS Now lineup. You may also check out some underrated JRPGs that you can play this 2021 to scratch that itch.
