Get a car and a gaming PC with the 2021 Model S
When Musk showed off the incoming Tesla car models back in June, gamers were skeptical about Musk’s claims. However, now that we know what’s inside the performance car’s gaming system, it’s safe to say that Musk’s bold claims weren’t just for show. According to a teardown video by Ingineerix, the Model S’s computer comes with a Zen 1+ AMD Ryzen CPU and a discrete Navi 23 graphics card. The 11-minute video goes through the innards of the computer inside the electric performance car. Because of this, we now know that the AMD Zen1+ processor is a quad-core 45W APU with a 500KB L2 cache and 4MB L3 Cache. Meanwhile, the Tesla Model S’s computer has access to both a built-in graphics card, as well as a discrete GPU based on AMD’s Navi 23 architecture. Rounding out these hardware specifications is a 17-inch “cinematic display” and a 960-watt audio system that has an LG Innotek Wi-Fi module. The Tesla Model S Plaid version will set you back around $130,000, give or take. This puts it firmly above most people’s budget as far as cars go. However, if you’re keen on having a complete mobile gaming experience and a high-performance car to boot, then be our guest. The Model S Plaid is in a company of its own as far as its infotainment system and performance goes. Unfortunately, as much as we’d like to believe that the Model S Plaid can run Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3, we’ll hold off our judgment until we see it for ourselves. Here’s to hoping that someone who’s got an extra $130,000 running around decides to splurge on one and test the in-car entertainment system for us. For the amount of money that you’ll pay for the Model S Plaid - it costs around $40,000 more than the base model - Musk better hope that the Model S Plaid lives up to his earlier promises. Otherwise, several technophiles will be disappointed. Speaking of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED just announced that future updates for both titles will have to wait until 2022. Also, a recent video showcased The Witcher 3 running smoothly on the Steam Deck. If you can’t afford a Model S Plaid, Valve’s portable console might just be the next best thing.
