What else do we know about Final Destination 6?

The first Final Destination film first terrorized audiences back in 2000. The supernatural horror film proved to be a huge success, raking in $112 million at the global box office against a $23 million budget. More importantly, the movie’s success paved the way for several sequels that helped make what would have been otherwise normal situations feel uneasy for audiences forever. Unfortunately, after 2011’s Final Destination 5, which had a global box office take of $157 million, audiences have yet to get a new installment - until now. Watts confirmed in a statement (via Variety) that he will produce Final Destination 6 alongside Dianne McGungle and New Line Cinema. He also reportedly wrote the treatment for the film with Lori Evans Taylor and Guy Busick, which previously worked on Wicked Wicked Games and Scream 5, respectively, penning the script. Unfortunately, Watts isn’t going to direct the film. After working on Spider-Man: No Way Home, which recently topped $1.5 billion at the global box office, Watts will go back to helm another MCU film with the Fantastic Four reboot. Here’s to hoping that whoever ends up helming Final Destination 6 can help recapture the magic of the other films in the series. The horror movie genre is going through a renaissance of sorts, with a mix of new movies and revivals of older franchises drawing crowds in theaters. Case in point, the genre-defining Scream franchise is now set to get its fifth installment, which is poised to take No Way Home off its perch once it hits theaters on January 14. Meanwhile, the latest Halloween movies prove that Michael Myers is still as scary as ever. Netflix also recently released a trailer for its Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie ahead of its premiere on the streaming platform on February 18, 2022. With all of these “older” horror movie series seeing new releases in the coming months, it’s hard not to feel like we’re going back in time to the late 90s and early 2000s.
