The movie based on the best-selling Gran Turismo racing video game franchise is being produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment. Currently shooting in Hungary, Gran Turismo already counts David Harbour (Stranger Things), Archie Madekwe (Voyagers), and Orlando Bloom (Carnival Row) among its diverse cast.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Geri Halliwell-Horner and Djimon Hounsou will be playing the parents of Archie Madekwe’s character.
— Heat Vision (@HeatVisionBlog) November 4, 2022 The script for Gran Turismo by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin is based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough. Mardenborough was a fan of the Gran Turismo franchise and was able to put his video game skills to the ultimate test: by actually becoming a professional race car driver. The young Briton placed in the top 20 of the online trials in 2011, which had 90,000 participants. Mardenborough eventually finished as the champion after the grueling challenges and training hosted by Nissan. David Harbour will be playing a retired professional race car driver that will mentor Madekwe’s Jann Mardenborough. Meanwhile, Daniel Puig (Naomi) will play Mardenborough’s brother. Josha Stadowski (The Wheel of Time) will play a rival race car driver, while German character actor Thomas Kretschmann (Indiana Jones 5) will play Stadowski’s father. This is not Geri Halliwell-Horner’s first foray into film. During the height of the Spice Girls in the 1990s, she appeared along with the rest of her group in the movie Spice World (1997), which coincided with their album of the same name. The Spice Girls are recognized as the most successful and best-selling female music group of all time.
— Spice Girls (@spicegirls) November 5, 2022 Recently, the Spice Girls reunited for Halliwell-Horner’s 50th birthday and celebrating 25 years of Spice World. Interestingly, the English singer and songwriter is married to a former racer and team principal of Red Bull’s Formula One team. Meanwhile, Djimoun Hounsou recently appeared as the Wizard Shazam in the Black Adam movie starring Dwayne Johnson. Hounsou will be reprising that role for Shazam! Fury of the Gods to be released on March 17, 2023. Hounsou will also be appearing in Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon on Netflix. Originally intended as a tie-in to the Gran Turismo 7 release, the Gran Turismo film directed by Neill Blomkamp will be released to theaters on August 11, 2023.
