According to HowLongToBeat, Pokemon Red and Blue takes around 26 and a half hours to finish and 102 hours if you want to complete everything. Its remakes, Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, are a bit longer at 29 and a half hours and 145 hours, respectively. So, to be able to compress that experience down 206 minutes and showcase all the important moments of arguably the most iconic Pokemon game of all time is nothing short of amazing. As the user KentaiP put it, “you didn’t animate the game we played, you animated the game experienced. Magnificent.” With a million views and virtually zero marketing outside of word of mouth, Pedro Araujo has become the very best, like no one ever was. Kidding aside, Araujo deserves kudos for his work on the animation. The fact that he did so much without a single line of dialogue is worthy of applause. It’s also fairly obvious Araujo himself is a huge fan of Pokemon. Not only did he go into excruciating detail animating the game’s biggest moments, but he also added several popular headcanons from the fandom. The animated film is a three-hour-long nostalgia trip that fans will definitely revolt over if Nintendo attempts to take it down from the internet.
In a later interview with GamesRadar, Araujo revealed his favorite is actually the Pokemon games set in Johto. However, he explained that the original Pokemon game had to go first. In his words, “everything started in Pallet Town with 151 Pokemon.” Fingers crossed, we’ll get the animated adaptation of Pokemon Gold, Silver, or Crystal, soon. If nothing else, this is the best way to cleanse our palate of the bitter taste that is Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
