The director made this revelation during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, as he was promoting his latest film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. Johnson was asked if he has any interest in making a Star Wars series and he responded that he will love to make a Star Wars anything. He also revealed he keeps in touch with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and they have conversations about the Star Wars Universe. In his words, “I would do a Star Wars anything. And if I had an idea that I was excited about, that worked better as a show than a movie, I’d do it that way. At the moment, we’re in between making the next Benoit Blanc movie and thinking about Poker Face. I keep getting together with Kathy [Kennedy] and having conversations. Who knows? Making The Last Jedi was the best experience in my life, so I should be so lucky.” Despite Johnson’s wish, his busy schedule will serve as a barrier to any plan he has to return to the Star Wars Universe anytime soon. Nevertheless, fans are eager for the next film and given the fact that none of the other directors – Kevin Feige, Patty Jenkins, and Taika Waititi – attached to helm Star Wars films have made any progress, they will be hoping the director can free up time for a Star Wars project soon. Before Lucasfilm released The Last Jedi in 2017, the studio made plans for a new Star Wars trilogy to be helmed by the director. However, this project has been on the backburner with virtually no information on its progress or lack of. Nevertheless, there is hope the project will still come to fruition as Johnson recently announced he is still attached to it and will get to it once he can find time from his busy schedule. Unfortunately, the project seems to be only a conversation at this stage as there is no plot, cast, or crew yet. One of the projects that have been keeping Johnson busy is the Knives Out series, including the recently released Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. The Knives Out series is a Netflix project and Glass Onion is the second entry in that series. Following the success of the first film, Johnson signed a deal with the streaming behemoth to direct two sequels. So, it might be some time before he is free of that commitment. Johnson’s last Star Wars film, The Last Jedi, is the second film Disney released following its acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012. It achieved both critical and commercial success and grossed over $1.3 billion at the global box office. The film follows Rey as she tries to recruit Luke Skywalker into the Resistance in the hope that he will aid the fight against Kylo and the First Order. Star Wars: The Last Jedi starred Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac as Luke Skywalker, General Leia Organa, Ben Solo/Kylo Ren, Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron respectively. The film also featured Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’o, Downhall Gleeson, and Anthony Daniels as Supreme Leader Snoke, Maz Kanata, General Hux, and C-3PO respectively. Apart from his directorial role, Johnson also wrote the screenplay for the film with Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman serving as producers. Speaking of Star Wars, Lucasfilm appears to have canceled J. D. Dillard’s planned Star Wars project. The Devotion director confirmed this at a recent interview. Fortunately, the company is lining up new directors in a move that suggests it will start making moves for new films soon, including Free Guy director Shawn Levy and Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
