Can Gran Turismo 7 beat Forza Horizon 5?
According to a pamphlet from Yodobashi Camera that was later translated by a GTPlanet user, Gran Turismo 7 will feature “over 420 car models with the highest quality ever.” In addition to this, the pamphlet details how Gran Turismo 7 will have “over 90 tracks with realistic weather and realistic scenery.” We already know just how much graphics will play a role in Gran Turismo 7. The series has always prided itself in squeezing the most performance out of whatever iteration of the PlayStation console it will release on, so we don’t expect Gran Turismo 7 to be any different. Also, to drive the point home, Kazunori Yamauchi, the studio’s director, talked more about just how much better Gran Turismo 7 is going to look on the PS5 in the game’s latest trailer. Having said that, these aren’t just the only hype-inducing information that the pamphlet revealed about Gran Turismo 7. Case in point, the pamphlet also includes intel about how Gran Turismo 7 is going to bring back GT Mode and let gamers “enjoy various events as buying, selling and tuning the cars and racing.” Although some key info might have gotten lost in translation, most of what the pamphlet is talking about are all the right things that fans have longed for in a new Gran Turismo game. Here’s everything else that was included in the Gran Turismo 7 pamphlet:
A shopping mall where players can buy over 300 post-2011 cars from more than 60 automobile manufacturers. A constantly updated lineup of used cars composed of historic cars from the ’80s and ’90s along with other discounted automobiles. A garage that will let you showcase and set up 1,000 cars. Wide availability of tuning parts, including everything from the engine to the tires, brake, and suspension, and more. More than 130 wheels and 600 aero parts lined up for you to dress your car up with other services offered such as car wash and paint, livery editing, and even oil changes. Over 2,500 photorealistic locations are scattered across 40 countries for you to choose from so you can take realistic HDR photographs. A complete driving learning center where you can learn all the right driving techniques from scratch using different cars and going through a variety of courses. Unique mission challenges and events that are a significant departure from traditional racing. Over 90 different racing layouts and world circuits such as Le Mans and Nürburgring as well as fictional circuits like the Trail Mountain.
Polyphony Digital has learned a lot from its decision to take Gran Turismo in a different direction with Gran Turismo Sport. By the looks of it, the seventh mainline installment is going to offer a more traditional racing sim experience with a proper career mode and robust customization options as opposed to a more intense focus on multiplayer. Only time will tell if this is enough to bring back Gran Turismo to its glory days and vault the franchise back to the top of the racing sim genre.
