To say that Tarantino has got one hell of a creative mind is more than fitting. So, if he says that he’s got a good idea for a movie, it pays to listen. In this case, Tarantino’s brain concocted what he feels like “a good movie” that would involve casting Adam Driver as Rambo in a re-telling of David Morell’s First Blood novel.
Tarantino’s idea for a “Good Movie” isn’t half-bad
In a MovieWeb interview, the director explains how he’d make a movie based on the First Blood novel by David Morell with Adam Driver in the lead role as Rambo. He added that he’d have Kurt Russel play the sheriff, before praising the fantastic dialogue of the novel, saying that if all he really wanted to do was make a good movie, this would be his first option. Of course, we know that Tarantino isn’t just about making “good” movies, so we don’t think that he’ll go out and direct a Rambo movie. In case you didn’t know, Tarantino plans to retire after his tenth and final movie. We doubt that he plans on ending his storied career with a movie based on someone else’s idea, so we can pencil his Rambo movie “pitch” along with his shelved R-rated Star Trek movie. Then again, who knows? Even if Tarantino retires from directing after his next film, he can still pitch the idea to movie execs and sign on as the producer. As far as his idea of a “good movie” goes, you can’t exactly blame him for praising Morell’s work. The First Blood was first published in 1972 with a movie adaptation hitting theaters in 1982. Unfortunately, the adaptation was not faithful to its source material. It features Sylvester Stallone as the undying John Rambo, whereas Rambo (yes, just Rambo) dies in the novel. If a proper adaptation of First Blood is ever made, Adam Driver would make an excellent choice. He has the physique and stature to play Rambo, as evidenced by his buff appearance in Disney’s Star Wars sequel trilogy, where he stars as Ben Solo.
