During a Collider interview, Jumanji: Next Level producer Hiram Garcia shared updates on the film. Garcia confirms that “Jumanji is definitely going to happen.” According to Garcia, director Jake Kasdan is still tied up directing Red One. The movie, also produced by Garcia, stars Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans. The movie is slated for a December 2023 release. Garcia revealed that he has been having conversations with Kasdan about the next Jumanji film, saying: The assurance from the series producer that there will definitely be a third film should be an exciting development for fans. The first two films have been blockbusters and fans should expect no less from the third movie. Garcia and Johnson have also collaborated in the superhero film, Black Adam.
The plot of the Jumanji sequel
Details for the third part of the Johnson-led trilogy are pretty scarce at the moment. The sequel is still probably in the earliest stages of pre-production. But, it’s clear that Johnson will come back as Dr. Xander “Smolder” Bravestone, a character in the video game version of Jumanji. Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Nick Jonas are also expected to return to the sequel. Fans have suggested that the third film’s plot has already been revealed in the mid-credits scene in Jumanji: The Next Level wherein a heater repairman accidentally discovered the Jumanji video game in one of the teen’s basements. The repairman being an avid gamer became curious about the device and approached it. The scene quickly shifts to a stampede of ostriches on a city street. From the mid-credits scene, fans have assumed that the third movie will be set in the real world similar to the original Jumanji movie starring Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst where the jungle spilled over into the real world. Kirsten Dunst’s character Judy Parish had to play the game in order to restore everything when the game ends. A movie where Doctor Bravestone and the others come over to the real world would take the series full circle. A modern-day city overrun by wild beasts and others summoned by the game would certainly be fun to watch. Producer Hiram Garcia has not yet revealed when fans can expect the next Jumanji movie. We previously reported that Jumanji 4 may come out before 2025.
