This spacefaring shooter claims to be a well-executed mixture of different genres. It’s essentially a three-player co-op shooter with a distinct focus on looting and gunplay, as well as some heavy dose of storytelling. Outriders was originally slated to be released alongside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X. However, Outriders, like many others, has since been delayed to a later date. What Kind of Game Is Outriders?
Outriders is People Can Fly’s third-person looter shooter. The storied development studio was founded way back in 2002 and made a name for itself with its work shooter games. This includes their 2004 debut title, Painkiller. For a brief moment, People Can Fly went under the name of Epic Games Poland after being bought out by Epic Games. However, the studio later bought itself back and was re-established using its former name, which was followed by its very own original title, Outriders. Outriders will be published by Square Enix and will feature a class-based system with a mix of magic and shooting, where players can create custom builds and embark on three-player missions via numerous social hub areas in the game. Although the game is a three-player co-op shooter, it can also be played solo and features a rich storyline complete with cutscenes and branching NPC dialogues.
What Is The Outriders Story and Gameplay Like?
Outriders’ story takes influences from Polish folklore and follows a group of soldiers who found themselves corrupted by ‘The Anomaly’ while colonizing the planet known as Enoch. Although the said unknown force kills many of the invading troops, it leaves the rest corrupted with some form of infectious virus. Those who were left alive and corrupted were left in a comatose state, after which they wake up suddenly finding themselves with magical powers. What makes Outriders unique is that it will mix standard MMO elements with gunplay. This means that players can build their characters like a rogue, mage, or tank, albeit with guns remaining central in gameplay and combat. The story kicks off just right after the players arrive on Enoch, before flashing forward to 30 years later as they wake up following their encounter with The Anomaly leaves them comatose. As a looter-shooter, gameplay revolves heavily around looting what’s on the ground and shooting enemies all around you. To aid you in your quest, Outriders gives players a dynamic skill three with a vast ability selection that players can use either individually or in tandem with each other and other players to deal more damage. The fast-paced gameplay rewards aggressive tactics, similar to Gears of War, which is not surprising considering People Can Fly’s involvement in the said series.
Is Outriders Hard?
Another unique aspect of Outriders comes in the form of its World Tier system. This essentially enables gamers to choose the difficulty level, however, Outriders also rewards players who love a challenge. This is because higher World Tiers offer better loot drops. This unique mechanic lets the developers find a nice balance between hardcore players and casuals. On one hand, the developers can make sure that the game caters to players who want to focus on the story first. On the other hand, it also gives players who like challenging themselves a choice, as well as those who want to grind for the best loot available.
Will Outriders Have Lootboxes and Microtransactions?
Even before its release, Outriders was already making a name for itself. In an earlier broadcast, People Can Fly and Square Enix confirmed that Outriders won’t feature loot boxes and microtransactions. Instead, the game will focus heavily on its story and gameplay. However, it’s not all good news as the game will require a persistent internet connection for those who want to play the game.
Is There An Outriders Demo Available?
Yes. There is. In perhaps the most surprising move by a big-time developer and/or publisher in recent years, an Outriders demo is available. The best part here is that the Outriders demo is available for players to play for free. Make sure to click here to know more about the Outriders demo.
When Is The Outsiders Release Date?
Outriders was first unveiled at E9 2019 with a summer 2020 release date. This was later pushed back to late 2020 to coincide with the launch of Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. However, this postponed date was changed yet another time, with a (hopefully) final release date of April 1, 2021. Outriders is being developed using Unreal Engine 4 and will launch on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X, as well as the PC.
