We recently reported that Don Lee’s management agency issued a statement for the actor’s upcoming projects. One of the projects listed as “planned to be produced” is Eternals 2. If we assume that the sequel is all but confirmed, then the next bit of news will excite you. A reliable insider has shared that Eternals 2 will take inspiration from “Judgement Day” as part of its plot and the sequel will have a more “cosmic” setting. The information was shared by leaker @MyTimeToShineH on Twitter. The user said, “Eternals 2 will be Judgment Day and be more cosmic. Chloé Zhao is not attached and there’s a chance she will not return to do the sequel. "
— MyTimeToShineHello (@MyTimeToShineH) December 26, 2022 The mention of “Judgement Day” lines up with the ending of the first Eternals movie where we saw Arishem capture Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo to examine their memories and see if the humans are worthy of living. The remaining Eternals Thena, Makkari, and Druig then set off on a mission to rescue their comrades and possibly other Eternals. During the mid-credits scene, Eros aka Starfox offers to aid the Eternals in their quest. Eros is the brother of Thanos and is part of the Eternals in the comic books. The mention of the sequel being” more cosmic" may suggest that much of the movie takes place in space or on other planets rather than being confined to Earth. It may have a similar feel to a Guardians of the Galaxy movie or Thor: Love and Thunder. Starfox is often depicted as a hero that wanders in space to look for adventure and romance. Arishem may return to Earth or battle the Eternals in space in the upcoming sequel. We are inclined to believe that Arishem will be returning to pass judgement on mankind. We expect the remaining Eternals to seek out their comrades in space and return to defend Earth alongside Eros and Dane Whitman aka Black Knight. Unfortunately, Eternals 2 might no longer involve Chloe Zhao as the director. One of the many criticisms about Eternals is the director, where critics claim Zhao adopted a more generic approach to the film. One critic described her direction choice of the Eternals as “workmanlike” while another said that she “embraced the straight-up expository conventionality of Marvel filmmaking.” Before directing the Eternals, Zhao won an Academy Award for Best Director and Best Picture for the film Nomadland. However, actor Patton Oswalt previously said that Zhao is on board to direct the upcoming sequel. Oswalt is the voice of Pip the Troll, the companion of Eros. As with any leaked information, take it with a grain of salt as Marvel Studios has not issued an official statement regarding the sequel.
