The little-known patriotic vigilante was never the most popular figure in the comic books, so only the most hardcore of fans are aware of who this relatively obscure character is. Fast forward to today and almost everybody knows who Peacemaker is. Thanks to John Cena’s masterful portrayal of the beacon of justice-wearing marksman who’s all for justice in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, fans are looking forward to seeing the character star in his very own TV show sometime soon. Now, HBO Max has decided to reward audiences with their first look at the upcoming TV series via a new sizzle reel.
What should fans expect from the Peacemaker TV series?
The Peacemaker represents a significant first step for the DCEU. It will serve as the first TV series set in the same universe, featuring a little-known vigilante as its protagonist, no less. But, judging by the official sizzle reel that HBO Max dropped at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards, it doesn’t look like the series will have a hard time winning fans over, including those who didn’t watch The Suicide Squad. In addition to The Suicide Squad, the reel also included footage from upcoming films like The Matrix Resurrections and Dune, as well as new seasons of Succession, Insecure, and Euphoria, and other new shows such as And Just Like That…, and The Sex Lives of College Girls. The first official Peacemaker teaser sees the eponymous anti-hero step out of the same uber-patriotic American muscle car that was featured in a previous Peacemaker poster as he walks inside a restaurant to meet some people. As soon as he sits down, a woman goes ahead and asks him why he’s wearing his costume. As expected, Peacemaker’s response is on brand, saying that his costume “is a uniform.” It’s safe to say that fans are hyped to see Peacemaker in action right now. The eight-episode TV series is a spin-off/sequel to James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Although a huge chunk of the cast died by the end of the movie, a handful survived. Among those are The Detachable Kid, as well as Peacemaker, who survived being shot by Idris Elba’s Bloodsport (spoiler alert!). A post-credits scene then shows that Steve Agee’s John Economos and Jennifer Holland’s Emilia Harcourt are going to recruit Peacemaker to “save the f#$king world”, which is probably going to be the story of the Peacemaker TV series. James Gunn returns to direct and write the Peacemaker TV series. He is credited as the writer of all eight episodes and the director of all but three episodes.
