The latest to attempt a proper video game adaptation is Nacon Milan, who will make the “first survival game set in the Terminator universe with an original story building on the events from the films.” Nacon announced the still-untitled open-world survival game at the recent Nacon Connect showcase and it’s definitely something.
— Nacon at #NaconConnect (@Nacon) July 7, 2022 If you’re not familiar with the Terminator franchise, it’s a series of mostly good films featuring a post-apocalyptic future where humanity finds itself on the brink of extinction at the hands of its own creations. The 2019 attempt at a soft reboot failed miserably at the global box office, losing Paramount Pictures more than $100 million. The studio canceled all its plans for more sequels following the film’s release. Despite this, fans keep on asking to see more of the Terminator. The Terminator has delivered several successful crossovers in recent years. In 2019, the T-800 joined Mortal Kombat 11 as a guest playable character. Sarah Connor and the T-800 also joined Gears 5 as playable characters for its multiplayer portion in the same year and Fortnite in 2021. However, most if not all Terminator games are action-based titles. The latest one isn’t. The Terminator movies have always had the potential for horror and survival. After all, few things in the world are scarier than being targeted by a machine sent back in time who will stop at nothing to kill you. Unfortunately, we know very little about the Terminator Survival Project (we’re pretty sure this is a working title) other than it exists and that it will tie into the six-film movie franchise. Given the movie’s convoluted timeline, it is better to wait for more info about the game to arrive. Most likely, the ambitious project will be exclusive to next-gen consoles on top of an already-confirmed PC release. Speaking of Terminator, the original pair of film’s director, James Cameron, is still enjoying a blockbuster reel career. After bringing Terminator to life, Cameron’s record-setting work, Titanic, will be re-released for Valentine’s Day next year. Avatar is also getting a sequel, Avatar: Way of Water, in December. Finally, Cameron shed some light about his plans for the Avatar sequels like how risky it is and how he might step down from the director’s chair in the fourth and film Avatar films.
