Unfortunately, it appears that this was all bogus, as Keanu himself has confirmed that he’s never played Cyberpunk 2077 before.
It appears that Keanu hasn’t played Cyberpunk 2077 at all
Back when Cyberpunk 2077 was first launched, CD Projekt RED CEO Adam Kiciński implied that Keanu’s been playing Cyberpunk 2077 and that he “loves” the game. However, in a recent interview, Reeves denied Adam’s claim. The Matrix actor explained that he doesn’t play video games at all, even the ones that star him. He does admit to seeing “demonstrations” of Cyberpunk 2077, but he’s pretty sure about not having played the game at all. So, what happened? Well, we’ve got a few theories. Maybe Kiciński got word that Keanu was a gamer and that he claimed that he’d already played Cyberpunk 2077. After all, a lot of celebrities play video games, so it wouldn’t be far-fetched for Keanu to game every once in a while, especially since he is one of the stars of Cyberpunk 2077. On the other hand, Kiciński might have outright lied as part of the game’s extensive marketing campaign. If so, it wouldn’t be the first time that Kiciński and CD Projekt RED, in general, have been caught claiming things that aren’t true. TLDR; Keanu hasn’t played Cyberpunk 2077 at all nor does he play video games. Having said that, his interview with The Verge was rather insightful. When asked about all the provocative modifications about his character in Cyberpunk 2077, Keanu effectively gave fans the full blessing to have sex with his in-game model, saying “Yes! Oh my god: It’s always nice when it’s nice.” much to the chagrin of his The Matrix co-star, Carrie-Anne Moss. Speaking of Cyberpunk 2077, recent Steam reviews suggest that the game is starting to recover. Meanwhile, Kiciński confirmed that two major updates for Cyberpunk 2077 are coming in early 2022. As for Keanu, fans will have a chance to watch him hit the big screen in The Matrix Resurrections starting on December 22, 2021.
