Now that most people have had a chance to watch The Suicide Squad in theaters and on HBO Max, the fandom is looking forward to the future. In particular, whether or not there are additional spin-offs on the table outside of John Cena’s Peacemaker. To that end, the film’s writer-director had some bad news for fans expecting more The Suicide Squad spin-offs.
Is Peacemaker the only The Suicide Squad spin-off in development?
The DCEU isn’t exactly the most cohesive film universe. Because of this, there’s a lot of uncertainty revolving around which films are coming and when. However, there are a few things that we know for sure. Like, for example, Margot Robbie is taking a step back from playing Harley Quinn in a movie. We also know that a Peacemaker TV show is coming. Because of the overall unpredictability of the DCEU, fans are speculating that Warner Bros. can be persuaded to work on more spin-offs and films if there’s enough demand for it. This might explain why fans are so eager to talk about the rumored Bloodsport spin-off, based on the character that Idris Elba played in The Suicide Squad.
— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) August 30, 2021 Bloodsport was one of the new characters introduced in The Suicide Squad and Idris Elba’s portrayal of the marksman was spot on, pun intended. Given how fans loved Bloodsport, it’s no surprise that there’s plenty of people who believe that a Bloodsport spin-off TV series or movie is in development. It also doesn’t hurt that Idris Elba entertained the thought about a potential spin-off that would explore the reason why Bloodsport shot Superman and landed himself in jail. Unfortunately, as per the tweet above, there isn’t a Bloodsport spin-off on the cards right now. Then again, who knows? James Gunn appears to be up for it and Idris Elba is too. If there’s enough fan support, Warner Bros. might be persuaded to change its mind and add a new Bloodsport spin-off in its lineup of DCEU movies and TV shows. For now, all we can do is hope and watch reruns of The Suicide Squad on HBO Max.
