Call of Duty 2022’s rumored name is confusing fans
Ahead of Call of Duty: Vanguard’s release on November 5, 2021, Tom Henderson dropped details about the name of 2022’s Call of Duty. The reputable insider, who has proven himself to be a reliable source of information regarding everything from Call of Duty and Battlefield, among others, previously revealed that Call of Duty 2023 will have a semi-futuristic setting. Now, he has revealed that Infinity Ward’s turn as the lead Call of Duty developers in 2022 will see the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II — Tom Henderson (@Tom_Henderson) October 9, 2021 If you’re confused, you’re not alone. Infinity Ward already released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in 2009, with a remaster of its single-player campaign coming in March 2020. The decision to name 2022’s game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is sure to cause some misunderstandings for the franchise’s longtime fans. But, if it’s any consolation, following up on 2019’s successful Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot makes a lot of sense. According to Henderson, Activision insists on using the roman numeral for the number two and that the box art for the game is “amazing”. He also added that it will have a single-player campaign involving Task Force 141 and their fight against drug cartels. If this is true, then fans have a reason to feel excited. A more familiar locale following years of fighting against Russia is a welcome change of pace for the Call of Duty franchise. Not to mention, the rebooted Task Force 141 squad means that fans will get a chance to see some of their favorite soldiers once again like Gaz, Ghost, and Soap, as well as other members of Price’s beloved sequel. Henderson stopped short of confirming exactly when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II will release in 2022. Even so, it’s safe to say that fans are looking forward to seeing Task Force 141 once again.
