Keep in mind, CDPR isn’t exactly foreign to the idea of multiplayer games thanks to Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. But, there’s a difference between a multiplayer card game and a full-on RPG with multiplayer elements. Most would “settle” with being able to play against other players in a new minigame for The Witcher 4. However, we don’t think that CDPR will make such a big fuss and announce its lofty multiplayer plans to do something so simple. In an ideal world, CDPR will implement a co-op element in future Witcher and Cyberpunk games. Multi-player raids and missions could make for a far more engaging gameplay experience. CDPR could even make the multiplayer element endgame-exclusive content. Having said that, Cyberpunk 2077 reportedly had a multiplayer component in development before things went south. We know for sure that is no longer happening since the Phantom Liberty expansion is the only DLC that’s coming for Cyberpunk 2077.
— CD PROJEKT IR (@CDPROJEKTRED_IR) October 4, 2022 At the end of the day, we’re still curious how CDPR will squeeze its ambition plans over the next few years. It’s safe to say that all eight games, including a new The Witcher trilogy, the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel and Project Hadar, an original IP, are still in early development or pre-production. When you consider that it took CDPR nearly a decade to release Cyberpunk 2077, we wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see the fruits of the studio’s labor until much later this decade if not early on in the next one.
