According to the Don’t Breathe director, his film debut with Evil Dead almost ended in a way similar to Sam Raimi’s original Evil Dead film from 1981. However, Alvarez explained that he changed the original ending after Raimi suggested that the film’s protagonist, Jane Levy, had suffered enough and deserved to live. — Fede Alvarez (@fedalvar) April 6, 2022 So much has happened for Alvarez ever since he released Evil Dead back in 2013. The 44-year-old filmmaker made the most out of the movie’s relatively small $17 million product budget to make a film that grossed $97 million at the global box office. More importantly, the reboot of Evil Dead was a huge hit among critics, sparking talks of a potential sequel. Unfortunately, this never came to be, with Alvarez moving on to work on 2016’s Don’t Breath and 2018’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web. Alvarez most recently helped produce Netflix’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre series. Alvarez is currently working on an untitled Alien film for Hulu that takes place in a universe that’s separate from previous Alien films. As for Evil Dead, Raimi hasn’t come back to helm the franchise that he helped kickstart, but he did handpick the writer and director for the upcoming R-rated HBO Max sequel. Evil Dead will also continue to live on in other media with Evil Dead: The Game coming on May 13 following an earlier delay. As for Raimi, the Spider-Man trilogy director is making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in May. After helping bring comic book movies to the masses in the 2000s, Raimi will direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
