Why are fans worried about the Halo Infinite Battle Pass?

Many games use the Battle Pass system for monetization and to give players a sense of progress. The best games let players clear through the entire Battle Pass without spending too much money. At the same time, these games also make spending money to level up the Battle Pass cost-effective and rewarding. In games that use the Battle Pass system, players can usually level up their Battle Pass by earning experience or XP just by playing. Of course, certain things yield more XP, like winning matches and so on. With that said, fans were worried when 343 Industries said that the Halo Infinite Battle Pass will not use XP. Instead, players will progress through the Battle Pass by completing challenges. Concerned fans then wondered what would happen if players ran out of challenges to complete, but it appears that 343 thought of this as well. In a response to a Tweet, 343 Industries’ Community Manager for Halo, John Junyszek, clarified that “playing and winning matches will be challenges.” Afterward, John explained in another Tweet that 343 plans to address the issues during the Tech Preview where people ran out of challenges by making it difficult to do so. He added that it’s still not “impossible” for players to run out of challenges to complete, but that he’d be “impressed” if someone could grind that much. One thing to note about what Junyszek said is that this will happen “at launch.” This suggests that 343 could still overhaul and change the progression system in the future. Lastly, the Battle Pass for Halo Infinite is permanent. Unlike in other games, where the previous season’s Battle Pass will be gone, Halo Infinite lets players go back and earn progress with an older Battle Pass.

What’s next for Halo Infinite?

As we wait for the game’s December release, 343 has done a great job of revealing more about Halo Infinite in recent weeks. In a blog post, 343 got candid and talked about the recent Tech Preview. The preview ultimately went well for all parties involved after a rocky start. Since the first playtest, we’ve learned a lot about Halo Infinite and not all of it has been good news. In addition to the possibility of a second Tech Preview, 343 confirmed that Halo Infinite will release incomplete. 343 will add both the co-op campaign and Forge later on. Meanwhile, Steam also revealed the full requirements to run Halo Infinite on the PC. The last bit is particularly excellent news. Instead of needing a souped-up PC, gamers can get away with just an Nvidia GTX 1050 TI to play Halo Infinite.
