Following the launch of Resident Evil Biohazard back in 2017, the survival-horror franchise is going through a renaissance. Resident Evil Village is currently well on its way to becoming the best-selling Resident Evil game. But, as fans look forward to the DLCs for Resident Evil Village, many are also busy speculating about the next installment, which is rumored to be Resident Evil: Outrage. Before anything else though, it’s worth noting that Capcom hasn’t confirmed the existence of Outrage yet. However, we do know that it exists. The Capcom ransomware attack last year contained information that a game titled “Resident Evil: Outrage” will release on “Q4FY21”. Having said that, we have rounded up everything that we know about Outrage so far.

Is Resident Evil Outrage A New Spin-off Series?

While the main meat of the Resident Evil experience lies in its mainline titles, the spin-offs also have a lot to offer. The most popular ones, Revelations, are already two games deep. The first one, which was released in 2012, starred Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield. Meanwhile, the follow-up in 2015 saw the return of Claire Redfield and made Barry Burton a playable character for the first time. Since then, fans have been asking for Capcom to release a third Revelations game and it looks like Outrage will be it. Trusted insider and leaker, AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem, explained on Twitter back in February 2021 that Outrage was “Rev 3 at one point in dev” and will be out “within a year of Village’s release date”.

When is the Resident Evil Outrage Release Date?

As we’ve already mentioned, Outrage is expected to release within a year from the release of Village or around Q4FY21. Considering Capcom did not announce the game at E3 2021, we wouldn’t be surprised if the studio has decided to push back the release date of Outrage. If it doesn’t release within the next few months (FY 2021 ends on September 30, 2021), Capcom should, at the very least, announce the game.

Is Resident Evil Outrage a Switch Exclusive?

Of the numerous leaks and rumors about Outrage, one thing all the unconfirmed information has in common is that the game will release as a timed exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. When the rumored timed exclusivity will end is unknown for now.

Who Are the Playable Characters of Resident Evil Outrage?

Capcom has done an excellent job of introducing new playable characters to every Resident Evil game. Even in the worst Resident Evil games, the playable characters are almost always the highlight. Outrage should be no different. According to the latest information from the rumor mill, Outrage will star both Rebecca Chambers and Leon Kennedy. Although the latter’s involvement isn’t a “sure thing” yet, most leaks do point to the former STARS medic coming back as the lead protagonist. Just in case you don’t know her, Rebecca Chambers was part of the original STARS squad that went up to the Arklay Mountains to investigate the Spencer Mansion. Back then, she was a rookie medic. She was separated from the rest of the group and was one of the playable characters in Resident Evil Zero. Following the said events, Rebecca went on to join the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance as an advisor. Chronologically speaking, Rebecca was last seen during the events of 2017’s Resident Evil: Vendetta movie, which is set between Resident Evil 6 and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Having said that, seeing Leon and Rebecca team-up makes sense. Both had already joined up together in Vendetta. It wouldn’t come off as a huge surprise if the two ended up investigating another BOW incident together.

Will Resident Evil Outrage Have Zombies?

While a lot of information about Outrage has leaked over the past year, no one has been able to provide information about the game’s setting or story. However, people who have reportedly playtested Outrage are saying that the game will see Rebecca researching a rage-inducing virus affecting people inside a university. Since Rebecca is a Biotechnology Professor over at Alexander Institute, the leaked setting and story aren’t far-fetched. The nature of the virus would also tie into the game. This also means that Outrage won’t feature zombies. We might see the infected act more like the Ganados and the Majini from Resident Evil 4 and 5, respectively. Although fans of traditional zombies might feel disappointing about this bit of information, Resident Evil hasn’t exactly featured zombies for years.
