New Resident Evil Village Trailer and Demo
As promised, Capcom revealed a new trailer for Resident Evil Village. The eighth mainline installment in the Resident Evil franchise is set to drop on May 7, 2021, and Capcom has done a magnificent job hyping the game up. However, what’s perhaps the biggest news isn’t the all-new footage of Resident Evil Village. Rather, it’s the details regarding the second playable demo for Resident Evil Village. While it’s not as extensive as People Can Fly’s demo for Outriders, the newest Resident Evil Village demo is better than nothing. Resident Evil Village producer, Tsuyoshi Kanda, revealed that the second demo will have a time-limited release on the Google Stadia, Windows PC via Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X on May 1 (North America, 5PM PDT), May 2 (Europe, 2AM CEST and Asia, 8AM HKT). Players on the said platforms will have a chance to play the game within an eight-hour window after downloading, for up to one hour. On the other hand, Capcom will also make the second playable demo content available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. However, they’ve decided to split it over two time periods. But, don’t worry. Even though PlayStation users will only get to play the Resident Evil demos for 30 minutes each, Capcom will grant PlayStation users early access. Capcom will make the Village demo of Resident Evil Village to PlayStation users on April 17 (North America, 5PM PDT) and April 18 (Europe, 7PM CEST and Asia, 5PM HKT). Meanwhile, the Castle demo of Resident Evil Village will release for PlayStation users on April 24 (North America, 5PM PDT) and April 25 (Europe 7PM CEST and Asia, 5PM HKT).
Resident Evil Village Mercenaries Mode
One of the longest-running modes in the Resident Evil series is The Mercenaries mode. Capcom has featured the mode in multiple reiterations of Resident Evil. As it turns out, Resident Evil Village is no exception. This much was confirmed by the Resident Evil Village Game Director, Morimasa Sato, at the showcase. The version of the mode for Resident Evil Village will play similarly to previous iterations. Players will still have to make haste as they proceed to the end of a stage before the timer ends. What’s different in the bonus mode this time around, as Sato explained, is an in-game shop. Here, players can buy anything from weapon upgrades to healing items, as they move in between multiple areas. Another thing that makes The Mercenaries in Resident Evil Village unique is that each playable character will have special abilities. These can range from anything like stronger defense to faster movement speed and even higher weapon damage.
Resident Evil Infinite Darkness Netflix Trailer
After revealing that a Resident Evil Infinite Darkness animated series for Netflix is in the works, Capcom has kept most of the details surrounding Leon and Claire’s latest adventure a secret. However, at the Resident Evil April Showcase, Capcom finally showed an all-new trailer featuring the iconic duo from Resident Evil 2. Capcom’s Hiroyuki Kobayashi revealed that Infinite Darkness will take place two years following the events of Resident Evil 4. It will follow Leon Kennedy back into the white house as a zombie outbreak threatens the United States’ capital. The game will bring back a familiar Resident Evil 4 story element in Ashley Graham’s father. For those who’ve forgotten, President Graham was seated as the President of the United States and the one who sent Leon over to rescue Ashley from cultists in Resident Evil 4. Capcom also revealed, along with the trailer, that Resident Evil Infinite Darkness will premiere on Netflix on July 2021.
Resident Evil Movie Reboot Update
The Resident Evil April showcase gave fans much-needed updates on Johannes Roberts’ cinematic reboot of the Resident Evil franchise. While Capcom didn’t showcase a movie trailer, they did talk about how the movie has officially finished shooting. All that’s reportedly remaining now is the CGI work for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Unlike the Netflix animated series, Welcome to Raccoon City is a complete re-telling of the events of the first two Resident Evil games. The story will be split between two main locations. The first is the Spencer Mansion on the outskirts of Raccoon City, where the first Resident Evil game took place. The second is the Raccoon City Police department, where much of the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3 transpired. Welcome to Raccoon City’s cast of characters will include the likes of Jill Valentine, Leon Kennedy, as well as the Redfield siblings, Chris and Claire, among others. Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City was initially set to premiere in September 2021, but has since been delayed to November 2021.
Resident Evil 4 VR
Unfortunately, there is no Resident Evil 4 remake coming. At least, as far as the Resident Evil April showcase is concerned. But, for those hoping for any info related to Resident Evil 4, Capcom does have good news. Although it’s not a remake, a VR version of Resident Evil 4 is set to release on the Oculus Quest 2. This version will switch up the gameplay perspective from third-person to first-person, similar to Resident Evil: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village. Facebook Reality Labs VR of content, Mike Verdu, promised to reveal more about the Resident Evil 4 VR title on April 21 at the upcoming Oculus Gaming Showcase.
What Other Resident Evil Projects Were Mentioned at the Showcase?
The Resident Evil April showcase also revealed that the multiplayer horror game, Dead by Daylight, will get a Resident Evil DLC in June 2021. However, there weren’t many details shown or revealed during the showcase. Instead, Behaviour Interactive’s Creative Director Mathieu Cote encouraged fans to tune in on the upcoming Dead by Daylight stream on May 25. In addition to this, Capcom also mentioned Resident Evil Re:Verse during the showcase. The multiplayer mode will come free with every purchase of Resident Evil Village. Unfortunately, Capcom didn’t talk about the other Netflix live-action adaptation, Resident Evil, at the digital showcase. But, Capcom did promise that they will hold more showcases in the future. So, fingers crossed, we will hear more about the other live-action Resident Evil series by then. Hopefully, Capcom will also release a trailer for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City as well.
