Games Leaving Xbox Game Pass in May 2021
Perhaps the biggest and most popular game leaving Xbox Game Pass in May 2021 is Final Fantasy 9. Although the 2000 classic RPG title is not as popular as Final Fantasy 7, it is well-loved by series fans and widely considered one of the best RPGs ever made. The game’s diverse and quirky cast of characters, as well as Active Time Battle system, was considered a throwback to then-classic Final Fantasy games. Two more strategy games are also leaving Xbox Game Pass in May 2021 in Plebby Quest: The Crusades and Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2. The former is a turn-based strategy title that takes place in Europe and the Middle East during the time of the crusades, with players tasked to maintain the entire kingdom as neighboingr countries and the religious elite scheme to take over. Meanwhile, the latter is set in the 40K universe where players can command fleets of spaceships and build the most powerful armada in the entire universe. A fourth strategy game in Dungeon of the Endless will also be leaving Xbox Game Pass in 2021. The roguelike tower defense game is loosely connected to Endless Space and Endless Legend. Finally, both Alan Wake and Hotline Miami will be saying goodbye to Xbox Game Pass in May 2021. Both are widely considered some of the best games in their respective genre. Alan Wake, in particular, received a lot of praise and was rumored to have a sequel in development. Unfortunately, the sequel never materialized. If it’s any consolation, Remedy Entertainment’s subsequent projects, Quantum Break and Control, are both still available for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers.
