For years, Epic has made a living one-upping both itself and the competition. Back in 2018, Epic brought Thanos into Fortnite, effectively kickstarting the crossover-hype market of today. Since then, Epic has crashed Fortnite on purpose because it was sucked in by a black hole and held virtual concerts in the game, among other events. But, one thing that no one thought would happen in Fortnite is for Epic to remove the one thing that separated it from other battle royale shooters - building. In a nutshell, Fortnite is a standard battle royale game with cartoonish graphics and a bit of Minecraft. So, when Epic unveiled Chapter 3, Season 2, you can only imagine the surprise as players found out that they could no longer build in Fortnite. As expected, Epic found a way to tie this building mechanic removal into Fortnite’s story, and it appears that Epic is removing this feature permanently with a brand new mode. Less than two weeks after Epic flipped Fortnite on its head, Epic has revealed a permanent no-building mode, Fortnite: Zero Build. The new Fortnite mode will work in tandem with the standard battle royale mode in Fortnite, giving players the option to choose between the two modes going forward, regardless if they’re playing in Solos, Duos, Trios, and Squads. According to Epic, “Zero Build is a pure test of weapon, item, and traversal ability,” adding that players will “have the recharging Overshield as [the] first line of defense in Zero Build.” To celebrate the arrival of Fortnite: Zero Build, Epic also dropped a new trailer containing gameplay footage and it’s a refreshing experience, to say the least. Considering that Epic will continue to give Fortnite players the option to choose between two different game modes, this gameplay twist is a huge win for everyone involved. In other news, Epic continues to raise funds by donating all proceeds from Fortnite purchases to Ukrainian humanitarian efforts. Meanwhile, Fortnite is still unavailable on iOS platforms if by conventional means. However, Fortnite players on iOS devices have found a way to get around this “ban” by using Nvidia GeForce Now.
