According to a lawsuit by Village Roadshow Films against Warner Bros., the media giant has moved “forward with a television series based on Edge of Tomorrow.” Village Roadshow Films is a long-time partner of WB. The two worked together on Edge of Tomorrow as well as The Matrix Resurrections. As for the reason behind the lawsuit, it appears the gist is that Village Roadshow refuses to give up its rights to Edge of Tomorrow and other properties that it co-produced and co-financed with WB. Also, it appears that Village Roadshow Films is one of the reasons why an Edge of Tomorrow sequel hasn’t been made, as the production studio has decided to move on from the 2014 film. Having said that, it’s not clear if WB has already moved forward with the Edge of Tomorrow TV show or if it’s still in the planning stages. Most likely, it’s also stuck in development hell, just like the Edge of Tomorrow sequel. It is a shame that WB has never gotten a chance to bring back Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise for a sequel in the 8 years since Edge of Tomorrow premiered. Both of the film’s stars have expressed their support for a potential sequel, as has director Doug Liman. The last time that we heard about Edge of Tomorrow 2 was that Emily Blunt believed that making one these days starring both him and Cruise will be too expensive for WB. Of course, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson once said that about Red Notice. Now, not only are we getting a sequel, but Netflix confirmed that it plans to shoot two Red Notice sequels back-to-back starting in 2023. If it’s any consolation, this probably isn’t the last time that we’ll hear more about Village Roadshow’s lawsuit against WB as well as the Edge of Tomorrow TV project. In other news, Emily Blunt has signed on to join the ensemble cast for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie, Oppenheimer. Meanwhile, Blunt is also set to reprise her role in a Jungle Cruise sequel alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Finally, Tom Cruise’s upcoming films, Top Gun 2 and Mission: Impossible 7, are finally set to premiere later this year after being delayed by Paramount.
