Ed Sheeran first announced his collaboration with Nintendo on September 22. The video, which was released on September 29, has since garnered over 3.5 million views. It features several classic Pokémon characters, like Pikachu, Charizard, Charmander, Slowpoke, and Snorlax. The artist added that the song will be in the soon-to-be-released games. At the moment, neither Sheeran nor the team at Nintendo has indicated how the song will be used. However, we suspect it will appear during the credits after the main storyline has finished. Sheeran has publicly spoken about his love for the Pokémon franchise. He once revealed that during his early touring days, he played Pokémon Red for nine hours when he got stuck at a train station. In a separate statement, the Shape of You singer said, “I loved the whole world they created; it kept me distracted if there was negative stuff happening in my life/school that I wanted to avoid. It was a world I could escape into and I’ve played it ever since. Even though I’m 31 now, I still own the same Game Boy Color and play Pokémon Yellow or Silver on planes and trains when I’m on tour. It’s such an honour to add a song into a Pokémon game and shoot a nostalgic video too.” In other news, Nintendo intends to release a Pokémon Scarlet and Violet themed Switch OLED console for collectors. It will be available from November 4 for $359.99. The video game company is also adding two new features to the games titled “Let’s Go!” and Auto-battle for players who dislike grinding to earn EXP. By the way, the next Pokemon World Championships will hold in Japan for the first time since its inception.
