Electronic Arts clarified the situation with regards to Battlefield 2042 in a statement via Eurogamer. In a response to Jeff Grubb’s claims that Battlefield 2042 is “basically down to a skeleton crew”, EA says that this is “untrue.” Furthermore, EA clarified that it still has a “significant team at DICE” that’s working on the game and “focused on evolving and improving the Battlefield 2042 experience for all players.” The reply came just a few hours after Jeff Grubb told viewers on his Grubbsnax Giant Bomb show that EA has instructed the few people working on Battlefield 2042 to push out content in the “fastest and the cheapest it possibly can.” Saying that it hasn’t abandoned Battlefield 2042 is different from what we’re seeing on the ground. Just how a General may try to save face with a paltry show of force, EA’s recent attempts at “proving” that Battlefield 2042 is still alive have been pathetic, at best. Perhaps EA should just put Battlefield 2042 into the pasture, it’s not like its reputation has improved since gamers started filing refunds en masse following the game’s launch. EA’s admission of its failures and plans to “rebuild” Battlefield 2042 from the ground up doesn’t inspire confidence either. For what it’s worth, Battlefield 2042 has seen some progress. At least, in terms of getting more content. After much delay and speculation, EA finally released Battlefield 2042’s first season of post-launch content on June 9. Unfortunately, Season 1 of Battlefield 2042 is unlikely to reverse its fortunes, especially with all eyes being on Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. Speaking of EA, the mega-publisher isn’t short on big hitters coming this year and beyond. FPS fans still have Respawn Entertainment’s stylish shooter to look forward to alongside Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. In addition, the next Madden title will feature John Madden on all three covers to pay tribute to the legendary individual who has become synonymous with football over the years.
