In the lead-up to Cyberpunk 2077’s launch date, CD Projekt Red found itself at the center of talk around work-culture toxicity and overworking developers. This has since been referred to as “crunch”. There were also talks about confusion regarding what the studio wanted Cyberpunk 2077 to be. Then, once the game actually launched, Cyberpunk 2077 was far from the game it was billed as, especially on last-generation consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Cyberpunk 2077 played so badly on the PlayStation 4 that Sony decided to remove the game from the PlayStation Store. Many months later, Cyberpunk 2077 still isn’t back up on the PlayStation Store yet. Worse still, CDPR doesn’t know when the game will come back.
Cyberpunk 2077 PlayStation Store Return Date
CDPR CEO Adam Kicinski recently confirmed to investors that the publisher doesn’t have any control as to when Sony will decide to list Cyberpunk 2077 again. Kicinski explained that talks are still ongoing between CDPR and Sony regarding the current state of Cyberpunk 2077. However, as for the removal of Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store, this was something out of CDPR’s hands as it was an “exclusive decision of Sony”. Interestingly enough, Kicinki’s statement seems contrary to the one provided by Michal Nowakowski back in March. The Senior VP of Business Development at CDPR noted that Cyberpunk 2077 was close to returning to the PlayStation Store after the release of Patch 1.2 for Cyberpunk 2077. It’s been nearly two months since Nowakowski’s statement and it appears that Cyberpunk 2077 is no closer to being relisted on the PlayStation Store today than it was before. At the moment, CDPR has its hands full as a result of the backlash from Cyberpunk 2077. More than half a year since Cyberpunk 2077 launched, the studio continues to find itself fixing the game and making sure that it runs well. Even worse, CDPR has to worry about the consolidated lawsuit that will be filed by the end of June. With that said, it seems that any PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 owner who wants to play Cyberpunk 2077 will have no choice but to settle with a physical copy. Otherwise, the wait continues with no good news expected soon. It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time that Sony has delisted a game from the PlayStation Store. It’s just that it doesn’t happen as often. This is especially true for AAA titles from known developers and publishers. Here’s to hoping that CD Projekt Red will rebound from Cyberpunk 2077 and finally get a chance to put the game back on the PlayStation Store.
