In August, Nolan’s co-creator, Lisa Joy, made a similar statement in a separate interview, saying: During its first few seasons, Westworld received impressive ratings from critics and fans alike who especially appreciated the refreshing concept, narrative, themes, and visuals. The show’s first season enjoyed the most viewership of any HBO original series’ debut season. Unfortunately, the series could not retain the interest of fans across all its installments and the viewership numbers have drastically dropped since. The show’s first two seasons occurred in a fictional, technologically-advanced amusement park where guests can pay to do anything they want to the park’s android “hosts” without any fear of repercussion due to the androids’ programming. However, the park’s “hosts” eventually gain awareness of their situation. In the third season, the show’s setting moved from the park to the real world. It is the mid-21st century and humans have ceded control of their lives to an artificial intelligence named Rehoboam. Westworld features an ensemble cast with the likes of Evan Rachel Wood, Thandiwe Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Ed Harris, Anthony Hopkins, Tessa Thompson, James Marsden, and Aaron Paul. While the show no longer has as many fans, the loyal viewers hope the creators convince HBO to renew the show for a proper finale. For now, fans will have to content themselves with streaming the show’s seasons 1 to 4 on HBO. Usually, the streaming service greenlit new seasons while current ones are running but that didn’t happen for the fourth season which debuted on June 26.
