After being stuck at 30 frames per second for years, consoles finally began supporting higher frame rates with the release of the PlayStation 4. However, it wasn’t until the release of the PS5 and the Xbox Series S/X that console gamers could finally enjoy a sizable jump in frame rates. While gaming at frame rates higher than 120fps has existed on other platforms for a while, the jump from 60fps to 120fps is arguably the biggest and most beneficial for consoles. This is especially true in first-person shooters, which is why we’re happy to let you know that Call of Duty: Vanguard will run at 120 frames per second on the PlayStation 5, during the game’s PlayStation-exclusive Alpha period.

When is the Call of Duty: Vanguard Alpha going to start?

In case you didn’t know, Activision and Sledgehammer Games are going to hold an Alpha period for Call of Duty: Vanguard starting on August 27. Days before the Alpha period starts, those on the PS5 and PS4 can already pre-load Call of Duty: Vanguard as early as today. Also, it’s been discovered that Vanguard will support 120Hz gameplay on the PS5. Of course, this is still all dependent on your display - if your monitor or TV doesn’t support 120Hz, then the option is useless.

Like, for example, how the game won’t support Field of View (FoV) sliders on the PS5. It also appears that Sledgehammer Games is going to bring back the Tactical Spring ability, as well as weapon mounting and mantling for Vanguard. Although it is a shame that Vanguard won’t have an FoV slider during its Alpha period, the final build should have one. Also, we can assume that Vanguard will run on the Xbox Series X just the same as it runs on the PlayStation 5. Of course, it’s always best to get this information from official sources, however the good news is that it’s only a matter of time before the deluge of official and confirmed information on Vanguard starts flooding in. After the Alpha period for PS4 and PS5 players on August 27 to 29, Activision and Sledgehammer are also going to hold other testing periods. This includes an open beta across all platforms that will run from September 18 to 20. TLDR; expect to see more of Vanguard in your feed in the coming weeks.
