Before that, Tekken 6 launched in 2007 and the gap between the two games marked an eight-year period without a new Tekken installment, from 2007 and 2015. To date, the gap between Tekken 6 and Tekken 7 is the longest in the series. Tekken 8 could break this drought if it comes out in 2024. However, that is highly unlikely after the events of EVO 2022.
Bandai Namco teased the new Tekken game at EVO 2022. A clip appeared in the middle of the event showing Kazuya’s ending from the first Tekken game after defeating his father, Heihachi, and dropping him off a cliff. Afterward, the camera zooms in on Kazuya smiling as his face is then replaced by an older, scarred version of himself with the same red eye that he gained following Tekken 4. “GET READY,” the teaser says. This sent fans in attendance and the rest of the fighting game community world into a frenzy. If you’ve been following us for a while, you’ll know that this isn’t the first mention of Tekken 8. The infamous Nvidia Geforce Now leak from last year contained information about the upcoming fighting game. The leak also had intel on other now-confirmed video games such as Street Fighter 6, Resident Evil 4, and Forza Motorsport as well as the PC ports of God of War and Final Fantasy 7 Remake. We’ve no doubt that we’ll hear more about Tekken 8 soon enough. The Game Awards even went as far as to “repost” the image of Kazuya from EVO 2022. Many have taken this as a hint that we’ll get our first trailer for Tekken 8 at TGA 2022.
— The Game Awards (@thegameawards) August 8, 2022 In the meantime, Tekken fans can keep themselves busy by watching the action unfold as opposed to playing. An upcoming anime adaptation, Tekken: Bloodline, which might be based on the plot of Tekken 3, will premiere on Netflix on August 18.
