To put things into perspective, your usual household appliances require vastly less energy. The average lightbulb’s power consumption usually stays below 100 watts. This means that when Doc Brown powers the DeLorean to send Marty back to his time in the classic Back to the Future, he’s using enough power to light up over 12 million lightbulbs. Last time we checked, the tropical drug paradise that the latest DLC in GTA Online has us raid doesn’t quite have that many, unless El Rubio has a super secret, massive underground vault dedicated to housing the least energy efficient lightbulbs on the planet. As such, we are forced to assume that the 1.21 GW sticker found on a power station by an attentive player is actually a Back to the Future easter egg. Sure, Doc Brown pronounces it “jigawatt”, but we can argue about that once we’re done deciding how to pronounce GIF. This is hardly the first pop culture reference Rockstar hid on the new island location that was recently added to the game, with players having a chance to spot good old Nessie off the shore as well - and until recently, a bug allowed us to swim up close too. What’s more, this isn’t even the first Back to the Future reference in the game, either. Longer back, a vehicle called the Deluxo was introduced, which is basically a DeLorean altered just enough to stave off the copyright lawyers - but the overall shape and design is there, and it even flies, too. Now, if only time travel were a game mechanic.
