According to 343 Industries Forge lead designer and head of live service Sean Baron, split-screen co-op was close to completion before 343 decided to cancel it. As Baron explains: TLDR; the reason why Halo Infinite doesn’t have split-screen couch co-op is 343 can’t do it and still stay on schedule. Baron’s candid answer doesn’t close the door on the feature to eventually arrive in Halo Infinite. However, it all boils down to whether 343 can find the time to make it work. 343 is currently facing a lot of issues with the game. Halo Infinite couldn’t quite contain the level of success following its initial launch due to the lack of planning. As a result, Halo Infinite started losing players and it’s all starting to feel like it’s too late to do anything. Matt Booty, Head of Xbox Game Studios, likened the situation to “the classic runner’s mistake of tripping and stumbling as you come across the finish line.” Fortunately, there is a silver lining as Halo Infinite recently welcomed its “biggest update” in time for its first birthday. With the beta of Forge mode, a free battle pass, online campaign co-op, and so much more new content already in the game, and hopefully a lot more coming, things are looking very bright for Halo Infinite.
